Which Version of Final Fantasy VII Should You Play

Since its first release in 1997, Square Enix has released several versions of Final Fantasy VII. If you have never played the game and wondering which version of the game should you play, here is a brief analysis of various Final Fantasy VII games that you can consider playing:

PlayStation Release: Square Enix released Final Fantasy VII originally for PlayStation in 1997. Even though Final Fantasy VII has a similar plot and themes to its preceding games, it featured completely a new story without any links to the previous 6 games in the series. Despite having a lot of versions, Final Fantasy VII original release is still a good game to play.

PC Release: One year after the original release of Final Fantasy VII, the game was released for PC. If you are a PC gamer, you can play this version of the original Final Fantasy VII.

PlayStation Network Release: Final Fantasy VII was released on the PlayStation Network as a downloadable game to allow players to experience the original PlayStation version on modern PlayStation consoles.

PlayStation 4: In 2015, Square Enix released a port of the original Final Fantasy VII game for the PlayStation 4. The game was released with some graphical improvements like higher resolution character models.

Final Fantasy VII Remake: In 2020, Square Enix released Final Fantasy VII Remake. This version of the game is a complete reimagining of the original game. The game features real-time combat, voice acting, and modern graphics.

Mobile versions: In 2021, Final Fantasy VII was released for iOS and Android devices. Final Fantasy VII for iOS and Android platforms are free to play games. If you are a mobile gamer, you can try this game without having to spend any money.

Final Fantasy VII Remake for PC: Final Fantasy VII Remake was made available for PC in 2021. The PC port comes with improvements in graphics and gameplay.

PlayStation 5 Upgrade (Intergrade): Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, an upgraded version of Final Fantasy VII Remake, was released in 2021 exclusively for the PlayStation 5. The game has additional content.

Nintendo Switch and Xbox: Apart from PlayStation and PC versions, Final Fantasy VII is also available on Nintendo Switch and Xbox.

What is the Best Version of Final Fantasy VII

It is not easy to say which is the best version of Final Fantasy VII, it depends on person to person. Even though there are multiple versions of Final Fantasy VII, some players continue to believe that the original game on PlayStation is the best version, whereas some believe that the game can be best enjoyed while playing on Nintendo Switch and Xbox (Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X). However, if you are interested in a modern and cinematic experience, Final Fantasy VII Remake for the PlayStation 5 or PC might be the best version.

For the original release, any you can get your hands on. If you want the best graphics, and the ability to mod the Remake, then I would say PC personally. I would say play both the original and Remake though, however you can.

I personally think everyone should play the original, I’m not really the biggest fan of the changes made to the story in the remake. I also don’t like the battle system as much as turned based rpgs, so I found myself struggling with the game when I played the first half a little bit. Without getting into spoilers, I think a certain few characters may not actually pass away in the remake which completely ruins the story for me. Perhaps I’m wrong, but I suppose we won’t find out until all the parts are finished and released.

As a big fan of Final Fantasy, since I can remember, I prefer the original Final Fantasy VII on PSone, the Remake was not very to my liking although it brought new things and Square Enix tried to innovate a little, I started my adventures through the worlds of Final fantasy with FFVII when I was a child, I am very fond of FFVII, the only thing I didn’t like was its translation into Spanish, which was horrible.

Final Fantasy VII Remake will be my favourite to play. It doesn’t matter if I played it on Playstation 5 or PC, they are both so good. I have actually played it on both Playstation 5 and PC, it’s an incredible game with so much improved graphics from the original game.
