The Potential Of A Wii Classic Console

Ok, I will admit that while I have already talked about a potential PlayStation 2 Classic, and a Sega Dreamcast Mini, I got the idea for today’s post from a YouTube video I saw. I am a huge fan of the mini and classic consoles and think that now we are at a point where more “advanced” hardware can be used. With the Nintendo Wii being a massive mainstream success, I think that a Nintendo Wii Classic console would do massive numbers. Those grandparents who bought a Wii just for Wii Sports would probably do so again!

The Nintendo Wii has a stacked library of first party games, so many that they could easily do 20 to 30 games without having to go to any third-party developers. Granted, it would be great if they could work with the likes of Capcom, Ubisoft, and Konami to get some of their games on the console. However, if Nintendo just kept this fully in house, I would not be against that at all and I still think that it would be very successful. If they could get this thing out for around 150 bucks and get it on store shelves in October, I honestly think that they could sell millions of units. It would have huge crossover appeal and I know for sure that I would pre-order one.

They could release it with a single Wii Motion Plus Wii Remote and a Nunchuck and then make a fortune selling more controllers! The hardware is very easy to emulate these days and with Wii games not exactly being huge in size, storage should not be all that much of a problem for Nintendo either! I think around 30 games would be the sweet spot here. Plus, one of the big things about this would be that it would have to have an HDMI port! Having this being able to be so easily hooked up to a modern TV and it not look like garbage would be great. This is especially true for those who are not really gamers, but loved the Wii, having something they can quickly and easily take out of the box, hook up to the TV, and then play would be great.

For this to be a hit, I do think pricing would have to be great. If they could get it somewhere as I said around the 150 mark that would be great, but I could see people being willing to pay a bit more for something like this. You would have to think the profit on something like this would be huge for Nintendo. With the rumor that there is going to be no new Nintendo console until 2025, just imagine if they could have gotten something like a Nintendo Wii Classic out in time for the holiday season 2024!

I have put together a list of 30 games that I feel realistically could be on a Nintendo Wii Classic console. Most of these are first party Nintendo games, but I do have a few of what I consider to be key 3rd party Wii games too. They could market this as a real family console and a big event to get families to game together in the living room. I truly do not see a downside to Nintendo offering something like this!

I would love to know what your thoughts on a potential Nintendo Wii Classic are and also what games you think would be on the system. Talk about it in the comments section down below.
