Checking Out Dimension Shellshock In TMNT Shredder’s Revenge!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge was my game of the year for 2022! I am 41 (yes I am old, deal with it) and have been a Turtles fan since the 80s and I have never grown out of it. When Shredder’s Revenge was announced I was all in and could not wait for the release!

Then the game came out and it was even better than I imagined, I got the Platinum trophy on the PlayStation 4 version and I thought that was that, until they announced some DLC for 2023. The Dimension Shellshock DLC added in two new playable characters, complicated more often than not foe, but sometimes ally Karai and the ronin samurai rabbit, Usagi. These are two fun characters to play as with Usagi being my favorite as his speed makes him very dangerous and especially useful for Survival Mode.

They also added in a bunch of new costumes for the characters. I got a huge kick out of these and they range from the vintage Mirage comic black and white look of the 80s to the recent Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series, unlocking all of them became my number one goal in life…. What can I say I live a very small, simple, but happy life.

Anyway, the main event was the roguelike Survival Mode. In this mode you pick a character and go through round after round of enemies, it is random as to which enemies you will face. The idea is that you are collecting crystals and when you collect so many, say 50 green crystals, you have finished that stage and move on to the next one. After each round, you get to choose between perks or modifiers, you never know what these will be until they show up. Sometimes it can be two perks that are great, other times it is like you are picking the lesser of two evils!

The modifiers do stuff like make enemies explode when they are defeated, make you jump higher, move faster, and so on. The perks do a bunch of different stuff such as making you take health from enemies, have infinite super moves for a short while so on. However, the best perk is the bosses that you can play as. You can sometimes get the chance to play as Bebop, Rocksteady, and Shredder and these guys are super overpowered. They also have their own health bar so they can be a real lifesaver if you are low on health, but a health perk has not appeared at the end of a round.

I love the Survival Mode in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge. As you progress, you level up characters making them stronger for your next play through. It is very addictive as well as you always want to get the high score!

I highly recommend that you check this out, it is worth every penny!

  1. I’ll preface this by saying: I am 45 (yes I am old, deal with it)!

I remember TMNT back when I was a kid. I think they had to change the name to TMHeroT to avoid upsetting people. That’s how far back we’re going. I recall playing with TMHT action figures and also the arcade game – a side scrolling beat ’em up which was the best thing ever! (at the time). I’ve seen this is available reduced on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1361510/Teenage_Mutant_Ninja_Turtles_Shredders_Revenge/

How does it hold up with keyboard/mouse or do I need to use a controller to play?

  2. I played it on PlayStation, but it’s very fast paced so I would recommend using a controller.

  3. The super fun gameplay and mind-blowing visuals have got me extremely pumped up for the upcoming release! I’m literally itching with anticipation to join forces with the legendary Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and kick some serious butt against the wicked Shredder and his henchmen in this absolutely captivating new game. The developers have totally nailed it with their incredible attention to even the tiniest details and the nostalgic vibes of the classic TMNT series. It’s safe to say that this gaming experience will forever be etched in my memory!

  4. I don’t recall playing this game when I was a kid but what i really like about this game (once I checked on youtube) is that it has that old nostalgy feeling because they game looks very retro. I am 30 years old and I know games from that generation, it was my first encounter with games.

I will try the game most likely in the future but the price now seems a bit overrated.
