Dune: Awakening is currently under development by Funcom, the developer which brought us such games as Anarchy Online, Age of Conan and Conan Exiles. No stranger to the MMO genre, Funcom has turned its sights to the deserts of Arrakis and is poised to unleash the next generation in survival MMO games based on the legendary works of Frank Herbert.
The initial Dune novel was followed by several sequels that further expanded the universe and delved deeper into its intricate plotlines and philosophical explorations. Brian Herbert, Frank Herbert’s son, and co-author Kevin J. Anderson have also contributed to the series with additional novels that explore the Dune universe.
The Dune franchise has also been adapted into various forms of media, including David Lynch’s 1984 film adaptation, a 2000 miniseries, a recent 2021 film directed by Denis Villeneuve, and video games that allow fans to experience the rich world Herbert created.
